Design, plan, and supervise; develop and implement improved ways to extract, process, and use raw materials; develop new materials that both improve the performance of products and take advantage of advances in technology; analyze the impact of the products they develop or the systems they design on the environment and on people using them; determine the causes of breakdowns; test manufactured products to maintain quality; estimate the time and cost to complete projects.
Plan and implement modifications to plant system wiring and electrical control systems including component and material specification to include identifying job materials and filling out purchase requests.
Experienced with Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen-Bradley and others) including ability to interpret ladder logic and make program changes.
Use working knowledge of mechanical/electrical principles/concepts to make design improvements.
Read complex electrical schematics and diagrams for electrical distribution systems, machine controls and plant support systems.
Read, analyze and interpret technical manuals, procedures, diagrams, blueprints, schematics for electrical distribution systems, machine controls and plant support systems.
Updates all affected documentation.
Education / Experience:
Four year technical degree or equivalent experience
7+ years of engineering design of equipment controls
Other Required Skills:
Working knowledge of electrical codes and regulations (OSHA, NEC, NFPA).
Knowledgeable of safe work practices and proper use of associated PPE.
Ability to effectively work in a team/group environment.
Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Controls Engineer with extensive PLC experience and controls programming
